The Food Lover's Queens

I'll concede that Queens lacks the glitz of Manhattan and the hipness of Brooklyn. But when it comes to sheer, exuberant variety—of neighborhoods, people, and food—we blow all other boroughs out of the water. In fact, frumpy ol' Queens just happens to be the most ethnically diverse county in the entire nation. I'm talking sea to shining sea. Plus Hawaii.

Such staggering diversity means, of course, that amid its Archie Bunker houses, drab streetscapes, and perenially proliferating chain restaurants, my borough offers up oodles of excitement for the intrepid foodie. As such, I plan to begin exploring the Queens food scene with a little more discipline and vigor than I've mustered in the past—and I'll be sharing what I find on this blog. (But for the record, I'm not going near any lambs' testicles.)

Up tomorrow: Patel Brothers grocery store, in bustling Jackson Heights.
