A New Gig!
I have a new job. Unfortunately, it's not going to pay enough to cover the mortgage—or the Verizon bill, for that matter—so I've gotta keep the day one, too. But I'm hoping this will be a good step for me nonetheless. (As if I don't spend enough time parked in front of a computer!) I've started reviewing restaurants for a brand-new Queens weekly called Forum West. Steve Tiszenkel—the guy behind the excellent local Website Queens Central—also writes a column for the paper, so I think I'm in good company.
The editor has kindly agreed to let me post my reviews on this blog. I will be contributing to every issue of Forum West, but here I'll publish just the write-ups, or versions of them, for places that I think are noteworthy or interesting in some way.
Up tomorrow: my review for Uvarara, a newish and very cute wine bar in Middle Village, Queens.

Hooray!
Hi Kalyn, Karen, Michelle, Zach and Levy--Thank you for your kind words and well wishes--they really made my day!
Congratulations! That's super cool!!!
Thanks Yvo! And if you have any tips about great places in Queens, please pass them on!
Great news! Can't wait to read all of your reviews (and can't believe how much Queens has changed since the aged GPs lived there).
Congratulations, Sarah. I'm waa-a-a-ay out of your circulation areas, but I would note that some of the best and most insightful reviews I've read in Colorado and elsewhere are done by critics for smaller weeklies.
Hi Bon Vivant--we still have our share of old-school places. (And old people, too!) In fact, for this week, I'm reviewing London Lennie's, a seafood restaurant that opened in Rego Park in 1960. Not sure if I'm going to post it on my blog, though, because it's not a very good review.
Thanks for the encouragement, Claire! This paper would definitely qualify as a smaller weekly. Very very small . . .
